This fine English diplomat became infamous when he said after being informed about the death camps in Eastern Europe, "as a general rule the Jews are inclined to magnify their persecutions." (Bernard Wasserstein, Britain and the Jews of Europe, 1933-1945 (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1979))

infamous? have not noticed. Who and when lambasted him?
famous? tend to doubt. Very few people have heard about Leeper, let alone his specific statements
hypocrisy? what makes you think so? Hypocrisy is when you say one thing and do another, see no evidence in case of Leeper
bigoted ass? well, perhaps not quite encyclopedic speak
distinguished? he was knighted, which in the UK, I think, stands for being distinguished
