The construction date mentioned in the History article (1915)cannot be right. Across Escolta is the Perez-Samanillo building. The Perez-Samanillo building was built to replace the old Samanillo building which was destroyed by arson fire on September 21st, 1922. The Perez-Samanillo building designed by architectys Andres Luna, Juan Nakpil and Jose Cortes was completed in 1928. And there are documents (photos) showing the Perez-Samanillo building standing at the entrance of Escolta with no counterpart across the street, except the old Roxas building. (one photo can be seen in Lou Gopal article entitled Riu Hermanos in his Manila nostalgia series.
