Big reworking

I just completed a big pruning of poor sources including a massive copy/paste text dump that had been taken from Artistdirect. The Artistdirect description was not signed by a music critic or journalist, so it was simply a representation of the artist written by the artist or his agent and hosted at Artistdirect. As such, it was a primary source. Independent WP:SECONDARY sources are what defines the topic. Primary sources should only be used to fill in small details such as dates.

Knitsey and Queenoftherumblingspires contacted me on my talk page to discuss sources for genres, but after looking into the situation I realized the deeper problems such as reliance on a Yahoo forum thread which itself was just a press release. Other poor sources I removed included discogs.com which fails WP:USERG, and thisisrnb.com because the cited page was not signed by anybody on staff such as Jamie Wexler or Gayle Carter. AllMusic has in his bio that he started in Blues and pivoted to the Southern Soul genre and later Contemporary R&B so I’m not sure how that isn’t a reliable source. Queenoftherumblingspires (talk) 22:07, 22 July 2025 (UTC)

Genres at AllMusic must be taken only from the prose review by David Jeffries who says that Sears is a primarily a blues guitarist. He says that the album Transitions was influenced by jazz-rock. He says that one single was Southern soul, and that two singles had "more of an R&B sound". I don't see that as an explicit statement about the main genres of Sears.

The AllMusic summary stuff is not considered reliable on Wikipedia, because it has been seen to contradict the prose review written by a music expert. The problem is described at WP:ALBUMAVOID. Binksternet (talk) 22:10, 22 July 2025 (UTC)

My research shows that Reggie is considered a Southern Soul artist and that he merely started off as an R&B artist. All promotional materials also seems to suggest that as well as Reggie’s own statements. Queenoftherumblingspires (talk) 22:14, 22 July 2025 (UTC)

Requested move to “Reggie King Sears”

I’d like to request a page move to “Reggie King Sears.” That is the artist’s full professional name, as used on social media, press releases, streaming platforms, and music databases. It reflects the current public branding, and “King” is not a nickname but part of the established stage name that has been used consistently in professional contexts for years.

This would align the page with naming conventions used for other artists who have changed or evolved their professional name.

What complete fucking bullshit. You keep putting "Reggie King Sears" as his birth name but the "King" part is a professional moniker picked up much later. I’m new to Wikipedia editing. the name listed in in the infobox is considered the birth name? My apologies I thought that was where the professional name was supposed to be listed. I was not trying to change the birth name. Also did some work on a few other artists pages but my changes got reverted. Ok so does every edit have to be verified? I also did add the Marvin Sease mentoring but I found that on Allmusic biography and thought it was relevant. I’m not asking for it to be added back but I am just asking what I am doing wrong. I am trying to learn. I have an interest in soul and southern soul artists and an interest in improving articles of all sorts. I’m sorry for any headaches. He was just Reggie Sears when he first got famous during 2012–2015. The "King" moniker was added much later. The media are not consistent in using it. His LinkedIn profile is still Reggie Sears. BMI credits his songwriting as Reginald Sears and Reggie Sears, and they list his performer names as both Reggie Sears and Reggie King Sears. His YouTube page is youtube.com/reggiesears – back in 2016 it was still just Reggie Sears, and in 2021 it looks like it was still Reggie Sears. Certainly it is now showing Reggie King Sears, along with a few hundred views per video. His URL on Facebook is reggiesears, not reggiekingsears, and on that page the name Reggie Sears appears first, followed by Reggie King Sears in parentheses. He formed a group called Reggie Sears Blues Express and they performed in 2019. I see a bunch of sources still writing "Reggie Sears". I don't see the kind of overwhelming shift to "King" that would indicate that the page should be moved. It's enough to tell the reader that his stage name is now Reggie King Sears after years of not using that name. Binksternet (talk) 05:48, 8 August 2025 (UTC)
