In my own experience, these fish act a lot like other sunfish and can be found near the surface or several feet from it during the day. They also will hit just about any bait like a bluegill. When they hybridize, they often retain the colored portion of the "ear" though it's usually more faded yellow then red.167.7.17.3 (talk) 16:07, 23 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
