Anti Soviet Garbage Propaganda

Its interesting how much brainwashing Hollywood did over the years in regards to making propaganda films against USSR. I'am actually writing my thesis on this subject and there are so many films to chose from. Some are so laughable, like this one and Rambo series of course that when you look at it from a distance it really insults the intelligence. Actually Hollywood made relatively few movies taking a bite at the Soviet Union, usually with the Vietnam war as background. Probably they made more pro-Soviet propaganda movies. --197.228.9.196 (talk) 14:05, 27 December 2014 (UTC)

Pro-Soviet Hollywood movies? Only during WW2 the USA and USSR were allies against the Axis Powers. When you include all others before and after that period, anti-Soviet or anti-communist films WAY outnumber those that are sympathetic. There were also lots of espionage films during the Cold War which, although not pushing anti-communist messaging, still had commies as the antagonists. What makes Red Scorpion and Rambo III which came out a year earlier (and which clearly influenced Red Scorpion) interesting is they were both behind the curve in their tone. Glasnost and Perestroika under Mikhail Gorbachev were in full swing and Cold War tensions were in decline. Even many long-time, die-hard anti-communists like POTUS Ronald Reagan had toned down their red-baiting, which was becoming rather anachronistic. The same year that Red Scorpion was released saw Red Heat starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Although not a "pro-Soviet" film per se, one of the two protagonists is a sympathetic Soviet character. Aside from Red Scorpion's creative flaws and controversies surrounding its connection to apartheid South Africa, it was also rather late to the party in its anti-Soviet agitation. Arguably, it was 5-10 years too late to the party, banging the anti-communist drums long after most people had gone home. ~2026-32616-23 (talk) 22:08, 1 June 2026 (UTC)
