How previous? because I live in England and started reception when I was 4 back in 1993. However, my cousin lived in the South of England and didn't have a reception. Sweetie candykim (talk) 12:35, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

In Northern Ireland, reception is optional on the year you turn four (from the start of July to end of June), it is always followed by Primary 1. Hence primary school ages in Northern Ireland from P1 to P7 are:
P1 4-5 years
P2 5-6 years
P3 6-7 years
P4 7-8 years
P5 8-9 years
P6 9-10 years
P7 10-11 years

The Scottish reference is wrong also - there is NO reception year in Scotland. Only Nursery. The first year of school in Scotland is P1 and is for children who attain age 5 by the following Feburary (i.e. 4.5 years and up). PArents also have the right to defer admission for Children whose birthday occurs in January of February to allow them to start P1 at age 5.5.
