Viewpoints?

[edit]

Apart from a mention that she's associated with third-wave feminism, the article doesn't seem to have much on what viewpoints she advocates. --Delirium 15:39, 20 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Feminism & her childhood

[edit]

There's a really interesting article by way walker of impact of her mother's views on her life. It would be great to incorporate bits of into the article. caz | speak 14:36, 24 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Even though the Daily Mail attributed that article to Walker herself, she repudiated it here, calling it "an inaccurate tabloidization of an interview I gave. No matter how much [Chesler] would like to see the piece as factual and however sensational the article may appear, my father is not a descendant of Holocaust survivors, I never used the word fanatical to describe my mother's views, and so on." --JN466 18:21, 24 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Needs more sources

[edit]

The article relies too heavily Walker's own website for details of her biography, publishing, and media appearances, links. For such a public figure, there must be more written about her by other sources. Otherwise it sounds too much like self-promotion.Parkwells (talk) 21:58, 27 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Draft:Melvyn R. Leventhal‎ initiated

[edit]

I have created Draft:Melvyn R. Leventhal‎, an article on Walker's father, who appears to be independently notable as a civil rights attorney. Any help expanding this and bringing it up to article quality would be appreciated. Cheers! bd2412 T 04:30, 20 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Proposed updates to lead and career sections

[edit]

Hello, I have a conflict of interest as the subject of this article and will not edit the page directly. I’m requesting a set of updates to improve balance, accuracy, and coverage of the subject’s body of work, based on reliable, published sources.

As a factual clarification, the article currently lists a marriage to Choyin Rangdrol. To my knowledge, this is incorrect, as there was no legal marriage. I recommend removing or correcting this statement unless a reliable source can confirm it. I’m happy to help clarify or provide sourcing if needed.

COI edit request: Lead section update with sources

[edit]

Hello. I am the subject of this article and therefore have a conflict of interest. I am not editing the article directly. An earlier request was declined because the proposed changes were not sufficiently supported by neutral, independent, reliable sources. I am resubmitting the proposed updates in smaller sections, with citations attached directly to the relevant claims.

For this first request, I propose replacing the current lead with the following:

Proposed text

Rebecca Walker (born November 17, 1969) is an American writer, feminist, cultural critic, speaker, teacher, and producer.[1][2][3] Associated with the emergence of third-wave feminism, she is the author and editor of eleven books, including the memoirs Black, White and Jewish: Autobiography of a Shifting Self and Baby Love: Choosing Motherhood After a Lifetime of Ambivalence.[2]

Walker's 1992 essay "Becoming the Third Wave," published in Ms., helped give the third-wave feminist movement its name. Following the essay, Walker and Shannon Liss-Riordan founded Third Wave Direct Action Corporation, a nonprofit organization that sought to engage young women in political and social action.[4]

In addition to her writing, Walker has taught creative nonfiction in an MFA program and has taught and lectured at hundreds of universities and corporate campuses internationally.[3] Her film work includes producing the documentary This Is Personal (2019) and serving as an executive producer of The Color Purple (2023).[5][6]

I hope this narrower request, with sources attached directly to the relevant claims, addresses the sourcing concern raised in the previous review. I welcome any adjustments an uninvolved editor considers necessary for neutrality, sourcing, or Wikipedia style. Thank you for reviewing it. Correction1117 (talk) 15:12, 19 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
