Talk:Reactor operator

Control Room Operator? I am unfamiliar with this term as defined by the NRC. While manipulation of the controls is allowed by a trainee under the direct supervision... etc etc (See 10CFR-55 for more info if desired), such a person is just a trainee. There is no special regulatory title for this person. I'll change it for now and can discuss if desired. I will provide the trainee text from 10CFR at the bottom of the section. This article only talks about the requirements for operating a power reactor - research reactors (and I think test reactors as well) have different requirements (for example, SROs at the Reed Research Reactor do not yet have college degrees). I might be able to come back and edit this later, but if someone else has more knowlege and/or time, a bit of update would be nice. Or is that unimportant? Aliaras (talk) 00:31, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Article focus is a little weird?

At present, a majority of page length is just spent listing the requirements of NUREG-1021. While they're on topic and such, the fact that they're presently most of the content of the article is probably not great. (Not to mention that i know they're incorrect, or at least apply only to power reactor operators, since i got an sro license with virtually none of the listed requirements. But thats wp:or until i go find a citation for it.) Moreover, the article probably ought to include some discussion of the job's history, job duties, military and civilian ROs, how it works in countries other than the US, etc. (compare for example the article on pilots.)

I do intend on making a bit of a project for myself out of this, trying to fix my complaints, but i only really know US civilian research reactors - if anybody else reading this knows military ROs, other country's licensing regimes, etc., please do add to the article!! otherwise i'll do my best with finding sources to improve the article with.
