Theater career

Undue weight is being put on Bolger's film career at the expense of his extensive work in theater. Reading this article would lead someone to believe that Bolger only became a "star" once he was film, despite decades in the theater and a later enormous success with "Where's Charley" (which would give him a signature tune forever associated with him, "Once In Love With Amy." 216.194.22.63 (talk) 07:03, 6 December 2008 (UTC) ray was a good man evry one loved him no-one disliked him

Raymond Wallace Bulcao

I think we need to reopen debate regarding Bolger's birthname, which may have been Raymond Wallace Bulcao, not Raymond Wallace Bolger, at least according to his profiles at Find a Grave and IMDb. He was born Raymond Wallace Bulcao (see this at the Dorchester Historical Society website. He was born and raised there so they would be the best judge. One cannot usually tell a birth name from a tombstone!! Quis separabit? 23:23, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

The US 1910 census shows him in Suffolk, Boston Ward 24, Massachussetts with his parents. Last name spelled Bolger. I accessed this through Ancestry.com's member paywall, but the census is available through the National Archives, surely a reliable source. ~2025-33457-73 (talk) 04:54, 3 December 2025 (UTC)History Lunatic

Not a paywall, just have to make an account to see it. It is "one source" in the sense of coming from one website, but having census and Boston birth registry documents that agree is pretty solid. Not sure what the "manuscript deciphering" comment is about - these are clearly written/typed. The Dorchester Hist Soc reference appears to be just quoting/paraphrasing an old version of the wiki page, so I don't think there is any special info there. I'd say this is pretty clear unless someone can show there was another Raymond Wallace Bolger born on the same day in Boston.

Just from a Portuguese ancestry angle, is it possible there was a Bulcao to Bolger change, but it happened further back, like father/grandfather/etc.? Sgtbilko99 (talk) 17:39, 4 December 2025 (UTC)
