Illustration
[edit]I did not find any free picture of the hammer retarder either on its own or inside a weapon (AKM is the easiest). If someone has access to an AKM: it would be nice to take the picture of the retarder removed from the weapon (harder, requires disassembly) or inside the assembly (easy, just remove the dust cover for the top view) and post them on commons (see link above). In the meantime, I had made an approximate sketch of the part using AI. Feel free to remove it when the real thing is added. --Викидим (talk) 07:56, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
- Dear colleague @Dronebogus: I do not understand your deletion of the illustration. Of course, a real photo would be much better, but I do not own an AK-47. Until someone would bother to produce a free photo, however, an AI-created reasonably faithful reproduction of an item should stay in the article, IMHO. It is not an "AI slop", just a picture made by AI. You can easily find non-free photos on the Web and check for yourself. Викидим (talk) 20:25, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
- WP:AIIMAGES discourages the use of AI outside of AI related topics. File:Hammer retarder.png isn’t great but I instinctively distrust AI and I think a lot of other people do too. Dronebogus (talk) 20:38, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
- Generally, I agree with you. Yet, here it is not the case. I have looked at the result and it seems to be reasonable. As always, the AI results are up to proper prompting and verification. I can draw something like that myself without AI, cf. lead picture in Panty line (still not replaced after years of use, alas), but AI-processed drawings are so much nicer-looking.
