Usage outside of arthropods

Based on some online dictionary sources , the term seems to be applied to birds as well. While I think the term is still more common in arthropod literatures (any subchelate limbs with prey-catching function), I'm not sure if that's really the case since I'm not familiar with vertebrate literatures.
