rapid evolution by natural selection, or non-saltation in general

I think that this article could also mention that not only saltation-like mechanisms are able to result in geologically rapid evolution, but natural selection also is, regardless of whatever Darwin himself might have thought or said (he stressed that natural selection does not have an even, constant rate, never the less). And that NS still have a role in saltations, as a fine-tuner of these drastic changes, rather than a nearly mere binary selection-or-not of the "hopeful monsters" (mutationism). And that NS, more likely than saltations, is responsible for the rapid evolution of complex adaptations, such as the eyes. I'll see if I find sources on this subject and list them here/start a section stub.

Also, any other non-saltational mechanisms for rapid change could be listed, whatever they are --Extremophile 00:20, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
