Is this "a simple melody" or a "set of simple melodies"?

I have been trying to search for the melody randomly for a while, and even the examples given in the article itself are very different from each other (i.e., the flute/english horn duet in the William Tell Overture and the oboe/english horn duet in the Symphonie Fantastique). Searching for it in Youtube, I often seem to find another melody:

Shouldn't this article be more specific to exactly what constitutes a "Ranz des Vaches"? [I really don't know exactly what it is... so I am probably not the best person to contribute =/]
