Retirement

Article has been updated several times saying GEN George retired. This is based on an X post by Sean Parnell (Pentagon Spokesman) saying he will retire effective immediately. In reality, retirement is a process and it is extremely unclear / unlikely that he has actually fully retired. Iandemallie (talk) 00:39, 4 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

My understanding is that if a general officer is not given a new position, then they are required to retire. If he was the highest ranking Army officer and was expected to retire in 2027, I don't know what other post he would be given (besides chairman of the Joint Chiefs, who outranks the CSA, but that doesn't appear to be happening). It is exceedingly unlikely he will be given another position. He will likely retire in the next several months. However, he is still listed on GOMO, and retirement is not instantaneous. And it does not occur via twitter posts.
