Reference formats

You were missing a closing ref tag (you have to type </ref> at the end, or it eats the rest of the page). But you don't have to use WP:Footnotes if you don't want to, and as the primary author on a new article, you get to choose the style. You can use any type of ref formatting you like.

Many new editors prefer the style used by academics in the humanities, which is described at WP:PAREN. It's very simple: For your first ref, you would type "(Skempton 2002)" or "(Skempton 2002, pp. 184-186)" at the end of the sentence, and type the full citation at the end of the page. WP:Images, but it's kind of long. Is the image already on Wikipedia somewhere? If so, then type [[File:Name-of-image-file.jpg |thumb|Your caption goes here.]] (where "Name-of-image-file.jpg" is the actual name of the file, including remembering to change the .jpg to whatever the file's extension is, if it's not jpg).
