The rally cap dates back way before Mets fans wore them to a game in 1985. Little leaguers have been doing this for years and obviously a new yorker is trying to take credit for something they didnt have a part in starting. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.9.20.233 (talk) 21:53, 22 March 2007 (UTC).

I dropped the insignificant example of Mets vs. Boston -- we don't need to start a list of examples of fans who wore the rally cap. The Mets vs. Boston example is the first documented instance of players wearing a rally cap, and is the incident during which it rose to national prominence (as it coincided with the ball rolling between Buckner's legs.) A Google search reveals weblogs of journals of Mets fans wearing rally caps to games in 1985.
