Member of the Order of the British Empire?
[edit]The claim is sourced to just this article, and Miah certainly says he is an MBE. However, he isn't in the 2004 list (published in 2003) as claimed in the article and the source given, nor is he in the 2005 list (published in 2004). Yue🌙 (talk) 01:52, 30 July 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for checking this. I am Raja Miah, the subject of the article.
- I believe the confusion is that the wrong Gazette issue has been checked.
- My appointment does appear in the official London Gazette. It is in Issue 57315, where the entry records:
- "Raja Miah, lately Member, Community Cohesion Panel."
- The official Gazette PDF is here:
- There is also contemporaneous Parliamentary confirmation. When I gave evidence to the House of Commons Home Affairs Committee on 14 December 2004, the official Parliamentary record identifies me as "Mr Raja Miah MBE":
- I hope those primary official sources resolve the question over whether the MBE was awarded.
- There may, however, be a separate issue with the article's statement that this was in the "2004 New Year Honours". The Gazette entry above should be used to establish the correct honours list/date rather than the sources presently cited in the article.

I am Raja Miah, the subject of this biography. I have a conflict of interest and therefore do not propose to edit the article directly. I am asking uninvolved editors to review the section dealing with my arrests and legal proceedings for accuracy, completeness and appropriate balance under Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy.
The present article gives an incomplete account of my history with Greater Manchester Police.
It records my arrest in July 2021, states that I was charged with malicious communications and harassment, records that I appeared in the magistrates' court twelve times, and states that the harassment case ended in May 2024 after prosecutors offered no evidence.
That presentation omits important parts of the same history, including two further dawn raids and arrests, the outcomes of the different proceedings, and my subsequent successful judicial-review proceedings against Greater Manchester Police.
I ask editors to consider the complete chronology.
FIRST DAWN RAID — JULY 2021
In July 2021 Greater Manchester Police conducted a dawn raid on my home and arrested me.
More than one allegation/proceeding arose during this period and they should not be presented as though they were a single case with a single outcome.
One proceeding concerned malicious communications.
At the hearing on 12 April 2022, the prosecution withdrew the malicious-communications case.
My contemporaneous solicitor's closing letter states:
"the prosecution decided to withdraw the case against you."
It goes on to explain:
"This means that they have decided not to proceed because there is no longer a realistic prospect of a prosecution."
The letter then confirms:
"The proceedings for this offence are now at an end."
The same letter expressly distinguishes that concluded case from a separate allegation of harassment, for which my solicitors continued to represent me.
The current Wikipedia article records that I was charged with malicious communications but does not tell the reader that the prosecution subsequently withdrew that case because there was no longer a realistic prospect of a prosecution.
SECOND DAWN RAID — FEBRUARY 2023
On 9 February 2023 Greater Manchester Police conducted a second dawn raid on my home and arrested me again.
I was questioned about an allegation described to me as inciting rape, arising from material I had published during a dispute with a journalist. GMP publicly characterised the suspected offence as malicious communications.
I was released on bail.
I was not subsequently charged or prosecuted as a result of that arrest.
This second dawn raid and its outcome are absent from the biography.
THIRD DAWN RAID — APRIL 2023
On 27 April 2023 Greater Manchester Police conducted a third dawn raid on my home and arrested me again, this time on suspicion of stirring up racial hatred.
No prosecution followed.
GMP subsequently confirmed that no further action was taken.
This third dawn raid and its outcome are also absent from the biography.
HARASSMENT PROCEEDINGS — MAY 2024
Separate harassment proceedings continued until May 2024.
When the case eventually came to trial, the prosecution offered no evidence and the proceedings ended without a conviction.
The present Wikipedia article does record the ending of this case. However, it presents it alongside the July 2021 arrest and the number of court appearances without explaining the outcomes of the other proceedings or the two subsequent arrests.
THREE DAWN RAIDS AND MY ALLEGATION OF POLICE HARASSMENT
The fact that there were three separate dawn raids is important to understanding my public dispute with Greater Manchester Police.
I have publicly characterised the repeated raids, arrests and legal proceedings as part of a pattern of police harassment.
I am not asking Wikipedia to state in Wikipedia's own voice that GMP harassed me, nor am I suggesting that the outcomes of the criminal proceedings establish that proposition as a matter of law.
I am asking editors to distinguish between that allegation and the underlying events on which it is based.
Those events include three separate dawn raids on my home between July 2021 and April 2023; repeated arrests and periods on bail; the withdrawal of the malicious-communications prosecution; a further arrest which resulted in no prosecution; an arrest for suspected stirring up of racial hatred which resulted in no further action; and the eventual ending of the harassment prosecution after the prosecution offered no evidence.
If the arrests and criminal allegations are sufficiently significant to include in a biography of a living person, I ask editors to consider whether the repeated police interventions and their outcomes are also necessary to give readers an accurate and appropriately balanced account.
HIGH COURT PROCEEDINGS AGAINST GMP — 2026
There is also significant subsequent legal history which is absent from the article.
In 2026 I became the claimant in judicial-review proceedings against the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police.
Those proceedings concerned GMP's handling of a case in which I was the complainant and, specifically, its decision to issue a conditional caution.
On 22 May 2026, HHJ Graham Wood KC, sitting as a Judge of the High Court, granted my judicial-review application.
The challenged GMP decision was declared unlawful and quashed.
An order for costs was also made against GMP.
For the avoidance of doubt, I am not suggesting that this judgment ruled that my earlier arrests were unlawful or that the High Court found that GMP had harassed me. It concerned a separate GMP decision.
It is nevertheless an important later development in the history between myself and GMP, particularly when the existing biography has chosen to devote substantial space to GMP's earlier actions against me.
REQUESTED REVIEW
I therefore ask uninvolved editors to review the section as a whole rather than simply adding another sentence to the existing paragraph.
In particular, I ask editors to consider whether a biography of a living person should record:
- an arrest but omit the subsequent withdrawal of the relevant prosecution;
- criminal allegations but omit that proceedings ended without conviction;
- the number of times the subject appeared in court while omitting two further dawn raids and their outcomes;
- the April 2023 arrest while omitting GMP's subsequent confirmation that no further action was taken; and
- extensive earlier dealings with GMP while omitting the subject's subsequent successful High Court judicial review against the same police force.
I would welcome an uninvolved editor rewriting the section so that allegations, arrests, prosecutions and their outcomes are presented together and with appropriate weight.
I can provide the relevant court documentation and contemporaneous solicitor correspondence where required. I also recognise Wikipedia's preference for reliable published secondary sources, particularly for contentious material concerning a living person.
My purpose in making this request is not to have Wikipedia endorse my interpretation of GMP's conduct. It is to ensure that, if Wikipedia chooses to document the police action and criminal allegations made against me, it also documents the repeated nature of those interventions and what ultimately happened to the proceedings. ~2026-50805-21 (talk) 08:17, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
