Sorry, it seems, that the description of the so called "Lorenz Ultrakurzwellen-Landefunkfeuer" is not quite right. There are no highly directional antennas as described. For a brief and right description look at [] page 6 and following pages. I think this document can help you to describe the early history of Radio navigation. Is 'dimentional' an accurate spelling for the title of the picture; "Accuracy of navigation systems (2-Dimentional)"? (The 1st picture at the top of the article) I thought it was 'dimensional'? Four Course Radio Range

I am considering adding a section on Radio Range which does not appear to be fully described here. Should it go under history? Any views? First 2 paragrpahs are as below.

Four Course Radio Range was also known as "A-N range" and "Low Frequency Range (LFR)" or simply as "Radio Range". In this usage "range" refers to a defined area or track (as in "shooting range"). The system provided indication of course but not of distance.

Radio Range was a means of radio navigation which provided guidance along four courses or legs which radiated outwards from each transmitting station. During the 1930s and 1940s Radio Range was the primary means of navigation for aircraft operating in the United States. The system was also used in other countries.

SatNav

In the late '60s/early 70's there was a satellite navigation system called SatNav. The US Navy used it and it was expected to replace Loran. It wasn't as successful as hoped and I believe it is obsolescent. Lately, the term "sat nav" has become a popular generic term for GPS. I think this article or the article on Global Satellite Navigation should be updated to include information about SatNav enough to eliminate any ambiguity. Navigation Radio article

Someone has merged this article with the article Navigation Radio. But the latter delt with the navigation radio from pilot's perspective. Including which frequency ranges are used for VORs and localisers. Nothing of that stuff is mentioned here, is it ?. So I don't understand why this so called "merge" has been done. It was sooner a deletion of that article, which wasn't called for (as this article is today). VOR's have a range between 108.00 and 117.95 MHz while localisers only uses a part of that range. Typically around 108.50 to 113.00 MHz. These figures are taken from my own memory, but is essentially true. And the Navigation Radio article used correct and verified figures. Also - a Navigation Radio is logically the opposite of a transponder. While a transponder only transmits, the navigation radio only receives. Boeing720 (talk) 21:15, 30 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
