Raul's role in the Moncada Barracks Operation

[edit]

Here is an interesting article from Granma which includes a facimile from the Oriente newspaper July 30, 1953, reporting RC's capture: http://www.granma.cu/ingles/2006/agosto/vier4/33raulmon-i.html

I believe he also played an important role in Operation Carlota - the Cuban defeat of the South African invasion of Angola in 1976. I'll post a source when I find it.

And Ramses II defeated the Hittites sure!! El Jigue 8-27-06

Vive Raúl!

[edit]

Report states that using odd grammar crowd cheers Raul. Apparently this cheer might be interpreted to indicate that some question if Raul has or has not joined the living dead "His speech, which closed the union's 19th congress in Havana, earned him a standing ovation from the crowd of about 1,400 people, which chanted ``Vive Raúl!" Politician vs authoritarian leader

[edit]

The other day a temp account changed the first line of the lede from saying "politician" to "authoritarian leader" with the edit summary of "clarified that Raul Castro led Cuba as an authoritarian, not subject to the democratic will of voters", I reverted this with the edit summary of "Authoritarian leaders are still politicians", , this was then reverted by the same temp account with the summary of "Perhaps so, but it is more accurate to describe the circumstances of his leadership. "politician" is a weaker description here" .

The summary of my edit should have mentioned WP:NPOV as I think "authoritarian leader" is not neutral language, especially given that the term is mentioned no where else on the page. It is also worth pointing out that ledes of rulers, even infamous tend to still describe them as "politician" in the first sentance of their lede, see Fidel Castro and Adolf Hitler.
