Etymology

[edit]

I am curious to know the origin of place names. It occurs to me that Quilchena is derived from an indigenous language. Regardless, can we uncover the origin of this place name? Enquire (talk) 19:55, 25 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Enquire: Shuswap for lakeside flats.(https://core.ac.uk/download/pdf/141717136.pdf#page=20). No doubt, if this deficient article was properly researched and rewritten, further meanings would be discovered. DMBanks1 (talk) 21:43, 30 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Clarification

[edit]

The construction of the Coquihalla Highway (Highway 5) would have increased, not reduced, traffic on Highway 5A. The major diversion of traffic was from Highway 1 (Fraser Canyon). Some of this increased traffic (especially commercial) now uses Highway 5A rather than the Merritt to Kamloops section of Highway 5.(https://arch.tnrl.ca/pages/search/index.html?browse=false&s=%22highway%205A%22&f_pub=-1&f_year=1998&f_month=7&f_day=23) DMBanks1 (talk) 01:39, 31 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
