Double Album
[edit]I'm sorry, but since most Autechre songs average 7 minutes, 20 tracks seems like it has to be a double album no? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.67.249.74 (talk) 16:01, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
- It is according to this site: http://www.autechre.info/news/index.html
- But I don't know how reliably informed it is.Liquidcow (talk) 15:07, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
It is a single CD album. I have it and I'm listening to it. The tracks are much shorter than usual. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.107.225.216 (talk) 20:23, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
It is indeed a single album. apart from the double album version, which is a double album. hope this clears things up. WolfieSummers (talk) 11:39, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Will review this soon; my past reviews (IIRC I reviewed Forever Howlong, which was notably missing a spot-check.) were lacking at best, now that I'm more experienced with content work(3 GAs) I feel more confident. Expect some comments soon. monkeysmashingkeyboards (talk) 22:22, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
- Did this album have any singles? Not too familiar with Autechre, but all the articles of their articles don't mention them releasing singles either - is this normal for them? monkeysmashingkeyboards (talk) 22:25, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
- ding on to this, was there any other promotion done for the release, e.g. a release tour, special interviews, etc?d monkeysmashingkeyboards (talk) 22:26, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
- No singles unfortunately. I don't think they've ever released singles for their albums, a couple albums have had livestreams or companion EPs but I don't think Quaristice ever had either.
I believe there was a tour though from what I've seen it hasn't been covered in reliable sources, so it can't be included here.Rambley[who?] 22:31, 29 January 2026 (UTC)- Scratch that, there is actually one source that discusses the album's announcement and tour (), though I have not assessed its reliability. Some other sources also cover the release of live samples from this tour that happened much later, though the coverage isn't too significant (, , ). I can add these in soon. Rambley[who?] 22:43, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
- At first glance Skiddle is a tour ticket seller, and that article(1) doesn't seem to be independent. They don't have an editorial policy at first glance so I'm not too sure, though I haven't checked the other sources. monkeysmashingkeyboards (talk) 22:48, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
- found another source about the tour, NME is reliable monkeysmashingkeyboards (talk) 23:01, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
- This source is in regards to Oversteps, which came out in 2010. Rambley[who?] 23:07, 29 January 2026 (UTC)

(...)Writing for Resident Advisor, Peter Chambers(...)
Resident Advisor should be wikilinked. Also, Resident Advisor isn't mentioned on Metacritic and if I remember correctly shouldn't be included in the "Professional ratings" table. monkeysmashingkeyboards (talk) 22:29, 29 January 2026 (UTC)- RA (and a couple other publications) is wikilinked in the "Music" section and I tend to not re-wikilink stuff if it's been linked in a previous section, though I don't mind if you disagree. If you check the archived version of the source, a numerical rating is there from when RA used to publish ratings, though again I can remove it from the box if you prefer. Rambley[who?] 22:36, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
- There are a bunch of other reviews, it's probably possible to use any one of the others, right? There's nothing forcing RA to be in the box, and I think it'd be less confusing to just select any of the other 12 reviews on Metacritic. monkeysmashingkeyboards (talk) 23:19, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
Done, swapped it for NME. Rambley[who?] 23:25, 29 January 2026 (UTC)

- I've had this nag before on another album GA review, can't remember which one though. The entire Music section is largely composed of 1-sentence blurbs of each song. While a sentence for each song is better then none at all, it just feels really scattered - just enough to know that the song is, e.g, "funky and soulful" but not enough to know that "UMI Says is a song about self-discovery and liberty, where Mos Def explores what it means to... etc". I've seen 4 ways of handling this:
- Describing the album as a whole, its general styles, etc - pretty difficult
- Describing a couple standout songs in a lot more detail, e.g. pick 4 outstanding songs, and go into much more detail with them. Remain in Light is a good example of this, and I think it's the most appropriate for this article.
- Describing every single song in full detail, FA style. Usually overkill.
- Not describing them at all and praying that the GA reviewer doesn't notice.
- monkeysmashingkeyboards (talk) 22:58, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
- This will probably take me a chunk of time to complete but I think I can see myself going down the route of solution number two. It'd be helpful if you could pick out a few songs I could go into detail about since this album is like 20 songs long. I can try write more about the actual composition side of things too. Rambley[who?] 23:10, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
- (sorry for the very late reply)
- "Simmm" was detailed in Drowned In Sound but it's at most 2 sentences
- "The Plc" has much more in-depth coverage in the Pitchfork review. TMT also has 2 sentences about it here.
- Looking at these reviews, they're... so short compared to how long they are nowadays, with track-by-track coverage. I will search for more, currently digging through Metacritic. monkeysmashingkeyboards (talk) 18:57, 30 January 2026 (UTC)
- Getting older album articles that weren't critically acclaimed up to GA status is really tough since you have to wade through so many dead links or short reviews (I've read reviews for AE albums that are, at most, 4 sentences long). I think it would be a struggle to discuss tracks in depth because of this but I can maybe still make it work? I'll definitely try to expand the composition side of things to make up for the short little descriptions of songs. Rambley[who?] 12:13, 6 February 2026 (UTC)

- This album article is missing a "Background" section, it should have one. monkeysmashingkeyboards (talk) 16:27, 2 February 2026 (UTC)
- Will get on this later today, have been crazy busy with work in the real world.. Rambley[who?] 09:23, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
- Sorry this took so long! Eek!! There's a background section in there now, though; it covers who AE are, their debut, their music becoming more experimental and the lead-up to the production of Quaristice. Rambley[who?] 12:11, 6 February 2026 (UTC)

Spotchecks
[edit]- http://www.clashmusic.com/feature/autechre-quaristice doesn't mention the March 3 or January 29th release date mentioned in the prose:
Quaristice was originally scheduled for release on 3 March 2008; however, it was made available for download on 29 January.
(hey look, I'm GA reviewing this on this album's 8 year anniversary) Source does coverThe artwork for Quaristice was created by The Designers Republic.
However, in the source, it says "Designers Republic," no definitive article - which one? monkeysmashingkeyboards (talk) 22:41, 29 January 2026 (UTC)- The company's official name is "The Designer's Republic"; I've inserted the RA source there as well which refers to it by that name. Will find a better source for the release dates, don't really know what happened there.. Rambley[who?] 22:48, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
- I've added in an old archived version of Bleep (owned by Warp Records, Autechre's record label) that confirms the early download release date and another article for the 3 March date, though that source seems to be a press release (which I think is okay for a fact such as this). Hopefully that's ok, at least for now. Rambley[who?] 23:05, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
Quaristice has been described as electronic, experimental, IDM and ambient.
Seems good, quoted from NME:many of them elusively experimental ear-tormenters.
James Burton, who handled production at Warp, found a manufacturer that was able to laser-cut into steel, so tDr "re-imagined the physicality of the design as a "techno" metal box" for the deluxe 2xCD edition
Seems good, though TDR's... questionable website design means that you can't copy and paste. Whitespace, anybody? /s monkeysmashingkeyboards (talk) 23:16, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
