Name origin and meaning
[edit]The source cited for the name meaning (10,000 Baby Names: How to choose the best name for your baby) seems to be quite dubious. Worth checking if that book has some rigour or just repeats / makes up / simplifies names origins and meanings, as it often happens in this kind of sources.
Wiktionary says that qays (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/قيس#Arabic) is a verbal noun derived from qāsa (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%D9%82%D8%A7%D8%B3#Arabic), which suggests that the name meaning is "measuring", "comparing", "analogizing", "drawing a conclusion", or perhaps more broadly: "rational thinking" (the last one could be perhaps considered own conclusion = own research).
It also lists an adjective meaning "hard", but from a different tri-consonantal root.
