This sentence is confusing: "They were held...two years after (and two years before) each Olympic Games"

So was this the pattern?

Olympics - Nothing - Nothing - Pythian - Nothing - Nothing - Olympics - Nothing - Nothing - Pythian

Well there was a four year cycle for the Olympics, so it was Olympics (year 1) - nothing (year 2) - Pythian (year 3) - nothing (year 4) - Olympics (cycle begins again). The Isthmian and Nemean games fit in there somewhere as well, so "nothing" isn't quite right for the off-years...also, it helps to remember that the Greeks began and ended their year differently than we do, so one of our years consists of parts of two different years for them (maybe that makes it more confusing, but I hope this answers the question). "the plain" being near modern-day Galaxidi. Are there no articles for the Nemean Games and Isthmian Games?? (the Isthmian were held at Corinth, the Nenean at NemeaSkookum1 (talk) 00:39, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

The City of Tempe?

At a couple places in the article there is mention of winners receiving crowns of bay from, "the City of Tempe, in Thessaly." Does anyone have any sources from this? I'm not an expert in Ancient history, but I come from right around Tempe and I've never heard of there being an ancient city anywhere around the gorge. Maybe what they mean to say is that the crowns came from the Gorge of Tempe (apparently called the "Vale" of Tempe in English which sounds super badass)? The area does have ties to Apollo and does have TONS of wild bay... but it seems strange to me that they would travel so far to get bay when it grows like crazy all over Greece.
