Odd delay

[edit]

This is some puzzlement over the fact that the Police took 3 or 4 months to produce the video of the incident. The criminal would have ample time to change his name and leave the area. It is also odd of the criminal to return to the scene of the crime, increasing the chance of being arrested. ~2026-35528-99 (talk) 14:24, 17 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia is not a forum; please only have discussions regarding the page itself and its content, such as ways to improve the page or inaccuracies. Thanks. jolielover♥talk 15:01, 17 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
It seems that the recent information came from two people, an ex-partner and another. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ~2026-36256-66 (talk) 11:06, 23 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
You don't think it was "odd of him" to do it in the first place? Doing another odd thing is, in fact, entirely consistent with pushing a woman to the ground for no apparent reason. Zedembee (talk) 20:13, 16 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Suicide language warriors

[edit]

To those trying to shoehorn in "died by" instead of "committed" suicide, changes like this are wholly inappropriate. You cannot go around changing from first use just because you don't like it. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 19:07, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

The other editor and myself both have the same opinion and the last i checked these things are decided by consensus and that is two votes against one, so if anyone is trying to control the style it is you. That is twice you have reverted edits, if you didn't agree with died by you should have taken it here first not keep reverting it like you own the page. ItsShandog (talk) 19:18, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Consensus is not a vote, and you don't get to tag team changes that are expressly prohibited, such as this one. There already is consensus against changes like this in the MOS without some specific reason, and "I don't like it" is not a good enough reason. There's nothing special about this versus any of the other umpteen uses of these phrases on Wikipedia. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 19:30, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
"changes that are expressly prohibited"[citation needed]. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits; 11:55, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
See also the third point at WP:LOCALCON, which specifically addresses that a small group of editors local to a page (or project) cannot simply disregard sitewide PAGs. And back to the original point, I'll be honest...I don't like "died by" instead of committed, "BC" instead of "BCE", etc, but when I run into these as established uses in articles, I don't change them because of STYLERET. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 19:43, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Then why did you not just get consensus after the first revert? What puts you in charge of the page that you get to keep reverting edits? You are saying we are changing it because of style when we aren't we are using what is recommended to use so if anyone is changing the edit because they don't like the style its you when you literally just admitted it. ItsShandog (talk) 19:46, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
The MOS does not prefer one over the other. What it does prefer is that when one acceptable alternative among multiple is first used, that it should not be changed without some very good reason. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 19:49, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Very good reason coming up: :

Try to use phrases like ‘ended their own life’, rather than ‘committed suicide’ which can stigmatise suicide or make it sound like a crime.

Of course if you have a very good reason to use "committed", as opposed to "I like it", I'm sure we'd all like to hear it. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits; 11:59, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi, sorry for coming at this a few days late. My edit actually introduced the term "committed" to the page rather than the euphemistic "taken his own life" (as has been pointed out before, MOS:SUICIDE does not encourage euphemisms and does not list the phrase in its recommended terms), which I then altered to "died by suicide" four minutes later. There were no edits inbetween those two alterations. Thus it was not a case of reverting or vandalising another editor's work based on my own whims — rather, it was you who kicked that off, Deacon_Vorbis.
I made the immediate change to my own work because, while MOS:SUICIDE does indeed concede that the term "committed" is "neither recommended nor banned", it then explicitly informs editors that "style guides have come to avoid 'commit suicide', which is now considered insensitive" and goes on to list more "appropriate, common, and encyclopaedic ways to describe a suicide" — including "died by suicide", which renders your claim of euphemistic language in that instance rather silly — and certainly seems like a preference of these terms over the former.
Again, I regard "died by" as the first use in this dispute as it was introduced in a series of consecutive edits by a single editor (myself) and agree with ItsShandog that there is clearly a consensus to leave it as is. Howtomedia72 (talk) 14:04, 19 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
