Tragic hero

At Protagonist#Tragic hero it says A tragic hero is the protagonist of a tragedy.

In the lead section, we are careful to point out that "protagonist" and "hero" are not synonyms. Is this "tragic hero" material still strictly correct - presumably because the tragedy genre requires a real hero (must be virtuous, accomplished, etc) as its protagonist? Or does the word "hero" have more than one sense to its definition? Or what?

I am aware that, whatever the case, "tragic hero" is really what this character is called, regardless of such technicalities. Just hoping that the technicalities can be tidied up so that this article doesn't accidentally give the appearance of contradiction. TooManyFingers (he/him · talk) 16:07, 7 September 2026 (UTC)
