Prod removal
[edit]I think this could be a good article that discusses some of the world's notable private art collections, plus how some art by famous artists cannot be viewed as they are housed in a private collection. There could also be discussion of notable art collectors, and their place in the art world. I am going to remove this template for the time being. erm, just a quick question...
[edit]just wondering if this should be moved to "List of Private Art Collections", with a brief description (like the one there already). This article doesn't quite sound ok to me, but that may be just me...
Also, wouldn't a "private collection" be something other that art, like stamps, postcards, antiques, etc.? Kolonuk 18:26, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Not always artwork
[edit]There are private collections of poststamps, postcards, puppets etc, wich cannot be characterised as art collections. There is only reference to collectors of books and the name they are given. Smiley.toerist (talk) 12:29, 14 December 2018 (UTC)
Scope alignment: Private collection as subarticle of Art collecting (seeking input)
[edit]@331dot: and editors of this page: I have a developed draft at Draft:Art collecting that treats the broader practice of art collecting (private and institutional; history, markets, law/ethics). Per WP:SUMMARYSTYLE, I propose keeping Art collecting as the parent article, and focusing Private collection on privately owned holdings/loans (with a short summary pointing back to the parent). I’ve added a concise “Private collections” section in the draft with independent sources (Britannica; Met Heilbrunn; ICOM; Columbia JLA) to avoid overlap. Views welcome; if there’s no objection, once the draft is accepted I’ll ask to retarget the Art collecting redirect to the parent article and keep this page as the subarticle. - Seems sensible, & the draft is an improvement. I see it's been rejected though. Lots of links needed. Less basic sources would be good, and non-American ones for a global project. What is "Columbia JLA "? Johnbod (talk) 03:26, 12 August 2025 (UTC)
