Viennese seams?
[edit]Having had a brief look on this article and its corresponding, apparently-distinct cousin Viennese seams, I have to say - having been sewing for about 9 years:
- - I've literally *never* seen the term 'Viennese seams', *anywhere*;
- - What the article 'Viennese seams' terms as a distinctive difference, I have *always* seen referred to as 'princess seams' in every publication on sewing I've read.
For example, this article from Threads magazine literally displays what this article would term a 'viennese seam' as a princess seam. My Reader's Digest Complete Guide to Sewing (1978) doesn't bring viennese seams up once. And so on, and so on.
It seems to me that the terms are pretty interchangeable. I can't actually find a source, on first glance, for viennese seams on the internet that isn't just mirroring the Wikipedia article here; I highly doubt one actually exists in book form, either. I'll have a further, deeper look, but in all honesty, I'm likely going to suggest the article Viennese seams be merged into this one in future. --Ineffablebookkeeper (talk) 22:07, 2 June 2021 (UTC)
- I have a ton of sewing books and "viennese seam" isn't mentioned in any of them. Whether from the shoulder or the armhole, it's called a princess seam. I wonder if it might be a term more common in European countries? If you don't find anything, I'd support a merge. Schazjmd (talk) 22:33, 2 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Schazjmd: - this is late, but I've been busy; a quick look on the German version of the article shows a book source that works in place of the current advertising reference used. (Seems to be by the same company, though.)
- Seeing as there's one very tentative source for the existence of 'viennese seams', I'm going to blank-and-redirect to this article with a note in the lead about the rare use of the term 'viennese seams', alongside the book source.
