New information has been added to the prestin page which elucidates prestin’s voltage-sensitivity. It is important to note the significance of prestin’s ability to elongate and contract in mechanisms such as the cochlear amplifier. Recent research has shown that prestin has an allosteric binding site for chloride ions which influences this voltage-sensitivity. Also, relatively recent research shows that prestin can transport anions through its membrane. This is contrary to prior belief and is important to make known for future researchers who are focusing on prestin’s mechanisms of modulation. Prestin sequence unites whales and bats

[edit]

Perhaps this could be added to an existing section, or a new section created, to represent the 2010 information in the journal Current Biology, for "The hearing gene Prestin unites echolocating bats and whales", at http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0960982209020570.
