[edit]I wonder if "I can do this if you want me to" is instead an example of ellipsis, because the clause is equivalent to "I can do this if you want me to do this". The ellipsis eliminates repetition. What do fellow wikipedians think? Oliverbeatson (talk) 20:11, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, that is indeed an example of ellipsis according to Swan's Practical English Usage. Besides, I do not think to functions as an adverb here, does it? The Wiki ghost (talk) 10:59, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
