Disambiguation page

[edit]

The page on preferential voting should be more than simply a list of synonyms on a simple disambiguation page. It is possible to make the page much more informative. Since the 2004 article by Farrell and McAllister, an increasing number of authors see all voting methods as preferential and systems are preferential to different degrees.  Preceding unsigned comment added by Topjur01 (talkcontribs) 11:06, 3 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

No it should not. That content belongs in the main article on the topic: Ranked voting. — Omegatron (talk) 01:28, 10 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Ranked voting and preferential voting are not the same. They are synonyms only in Australia and a couple of other countries, but they are not the same at all. 191.250.25.218 (talk) 18:28, 2 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
@191.250.25.218: Yes, that's why this is a disambiguation page. The term "preferential voting" is ambiguous and has multiple meanings. This page links to articles dedicated to each particular meaning. Please don't revert it again. — Omegatron (talk) 13:51, 3 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Hey man im josh any objections to moving this to "Preferential voting (disambiguation)" and making this a redirect to ranked-choice voting? TL;DR is that it looks like the majority of searches for PV are from Australia, which uses it to mean RCV. – Closed Limelike Curves (talk) 15:17, 29 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Closed Limelike Curves: I'm not particularly sure that the Australian target is the primary topic, and there's no rush, so I'd actually suggest a page move discussion in this case. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:18, 29 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Is that the same as just requesting a move? – Closed Limelike Curves (talk) 15:21, 29 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
