- Agree, that's a point that struck me too. I just bought a secondhand copy of the book, it's engaging and seems a good read, but it often blurs the lines between what she could plausibly have witnessed or recalled as a small child and the ambitions to write a wider-scope history of the country during those years, and not least of the fate of Czech Jews, She was eight years old, almost to a day, at the end of the war (Albright famously claimed to have been unaware of the family's Jewish heritage until she was past fifty years old, but the book often focuses on the repression of the Jews and the Holocaust). ~2026-12272-36 (talk) 22:13, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
