History of introduction of counties in Poland/GDL
[edit]The following text from the current article seems anachronistic, as the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth didn't exist until the Union of Lublin in 1569:
Counties were introduced in Ukrainian territories under Poland (the Commonwealth Rzeczpospolita to be more precise) in the second half of the 14th century (Polish: powiat). More detailed norms were adopted in the Second Statutes of Lithuania of 1566.
I was about to change it to the following:
Counties were introduced in Ukrainian territories in the second half of the 14th century, under the rule of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, which was in personal union with the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland. More detailed norms were adopted in the Second Statutes of Lithuania of 1566.
However, no source is currently given and I am too uncertain about the details to submit the edit, so I'll just flag the issue here in the hope it can be resolved someday. As can be seen in this map, at the time of the Union of Krewo (1385), more of modern-day Ukraine belonged to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania than to the Kingdom of Poland, but part of it did belong to Poland. Also, I am not sure whether counties were introduced to Ukraine prior to the Union of Lublin or after it, as the article just says "second half of the 14th century". Maybe the counties were introduced specifically as a result of unifying with Poland. The article powiat isn't any more helpful in tracking down exactly how they were introduced. 98.170.164.88 (talk) 04:02, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
