The explanation of the illustration is incorrect.

It is written: "so Kempe would swap colors in the left red–yellow chain and the right red–green chain (red lines), allowing the outer region to be red" To simplify, we switch the right red-green chain. Now we calculate the left red-yellow chain again. The chain has 3 vertices: red, yellow, red (which has been green). The inversion solves the problem. There are no adjacent red vertices.
