The explanation for PTP is incorrect here, build up of Ca++ is the cause for short-term facilitation (lasting less than 1 second). Agree, this is Facilitation not PTP. PTP follows a close series of incoming stimulating signals that are mediated by opening of input ion channels and the gradual diffusion away of the excess ion concentration. PTP lasts for several minutes and is thought to correspond to observed short term memory enhancement.The process described in this article of enhanced signal size mediated by Ca++ ion concetratons following short-spaced consecutive signals to a neuron is known as facilitation and has no lasting effects.
