I added an original research tag that suggests a link between Poseidia and Amphitrite. The fact that former may have been a consort and the latter is an attested spouse is not sufficient to make this claim without a reliable source.~TPW 20:46, 12 February 2025 (UTC)

Bronze Age Greece / Origins sections is a mess

These sections, riddled with typos and grammar issues and likely containing some interesting information if verifiable, are an unstructured mess--long paragraphs that meander from one unconnected topic to the next, and with some info duplicated within and between sections. Semi-protected edit request on 18 May 2026 - RE: incorrect grammar

Change “Poseidon is famous for his contests with other deities for winning the patronage of the city.” to “Poseidon is famous for his contests with fellow deities for winning the patronage of various cities.” Change “In similar competitions with other deities in different cities, he causes devastating floods when he loses.” to “In similar competitions with other deities in different cities, stories have him continue to cause devastating floods when he loses.” ~2026-29633-90 (talk) 01:07, 18 May 2026 (UTC)

Because the structure of the paragraph is bit of a mess. Ending the first sentence with “the city.” is grammatically incorrect, nothing in the preceding paragraph gave any indication of the possible cities it could be and the phrase itself doesn’t make any sense with the context of multiple different contests. I went with “various cities” to match the plural of the rest of the text. I changed “other” to “fellow” to prevent overuse of “other deities” as it is already in the paragraph; I selected “fellow” because in the examples listed further in the article the contests are usually quite personal to the gods in question and I felt it better highlighted the pantheon’s infighting. I added the expansion on “stories” to better tie in to the following sentence about the Ancient Greek perception that Poseidon needed to be appeased. Thinking on it overnight, maybe “devastating floods” could be refined to “devastation” if only because besides Athens, the other example listed in the article of his wrath in these contests is a drought brought upon Phoroneus. ~2026-29742-15 (talk) 13:25, 18 May 2026 (UTC)

 Not done: There's nothing grammatically incorrect about using "the city" to refer to cities in general, and it's particularly common to use it this way to refer to the city-states of ancient Greece (see Polis). Hi ~2026-29742-15. I'm not sure why you've been continually rebuffed here, given the pretty obvious incoherence of these sentences. I've simply deleted both of them and added the following to the end of the paragraph: "Other myths describe similar contests between Poseidon and another deity for the patronage of a city."
