Ponui Kiwi mixed genetics
[edit]@Nurg what is the source for 'The Department of Conservation has no plans to take Ponui kiwi to supplement existing populations elsewhere, because of their mixed genetic origins, according to a 2006 report', the NZ Herald story does not mention 2006 nor any mixed origins for the birds, unless I've overlooked that somehow. - It's the Latham source. I have now added another instance of the cite, for that statement – and added page nos as a bonus. Nurg (talk) 23:32, 1 June 2025 (UTC)
- I initially looked because the claim 'mixed genetic origins' confused me as they are the same species. I am currently getting a 504 error trying to load the thesis currently but are you able to find the actual DOC report? Traumnovelle (talk) 23:36, 1 June 2025 (UTC)
- The mixed genetics must refer to geographically separate populations of the same species. Latham does not cite a source for DOC's non-plan. Nurg (talk) 00:48, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
- Seems odd for that to be a concern to me given it'd result in a larger gene pool but I don't know enough to know where else to look/what the merits of the claim are. Traumnovelle (talk) 00:56, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
