Japanese knotweed

Large genus
[edit]Because Polygonum is a genus with a relatively large number of species, the fourth sentence should read, "Common names of polygonum species include include Japanese knotweed, knotgrass, bistort, tear-thumb, mile-a-minute and several others."
An additional line might be, "A number of Polygonum species, such as Japanese knotweed and mile-a-minute, are considered invasive and a threat to biological diversity and integrity in some regions of the U.S." 24.161.66.104 (talk) 00:37, 13 July 2008 (UTC)MAV, restoration ecologist.
- I've made an edit along the lines of the first one. As for the invasiveness, ideally we'd mention other areas other than the US, and more importantly we need some kind of citation, per WP:CITE. That's particularly true of invasiveness, as statements along these lines have sometimes been controversial and the solution is to be as specific and factual as possible (see also things like the undue weight discussion at WP:NPOV). Having said all that, yes, since the genus contains a fair number of invasive species, some of them quite prevelant (at least in the US), the article would be improved by covering this.
