How is Top. pronounced?

Missing "Basepoint" Explaination

This article doesn't explain what a basepoint is, which makes it pretty ineffective at conveying the basic concept of pointed space. Note that a wikipedia search on "basepoint" redirects to this article. 72.44.12.209 (talk) 21:23, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

Period or star?

Mac Lane writes ${\textbf {Top}}_{*}$, so why is it Top_• here? GroupCohomologist (talk) 09:14, 15 April 2015 (UTC)

Because helvetica fonts look more modern than times-roman. A bunch of books from the 1970's-1980's used the helvetica fonts -- one of the first ones like that, that pops out and hits you over the head with the modern typography is Misner, Thorne, Wheeler. They were fun to read in part because they were easy-going on the eyes, instead of having these turgid stars, etc. I guess now that we have modern computer fonts, maybe its no longer such a big deal... or you get used to it, or something. Anyway, typography doesn't stand still. If it did, we'd still be using gothic blackpage like all those old 19th century books from Minkowski or all the old Lie algebra books.
