Corrections
[edit]I corrected the article which stated that the Rogers-Post memorial site was "nearby" to Point Barrow. Using the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration calculator at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gccalc.shtml, and the lat/long coordinates for the memorial 71°9′20″N 157°2′58″W, to Point Barrow, the distance is 33 km. or 20.5 miles southwest of the point, hardly "nearby." The rockets were fired from the "Shooting Station," hence the place name to which it is referred, which is a few miles southwest, closer to NARL than it is to Point Barrow. I also distinguished the gray whales as a species not hunted by the Iñupiat. The Makah in northwest Washington state have traditional and treaty hunting rights, but have been precluded from legal hunts since taking one gray whale in 1999. Siberian natives take Eastern Pacific grays, but not as a traditional source of food, but rather for fur farms. This has led to disputes with the Soviet Union and now Russia. More Corrections
[edit]I corrected the statement about the GAW station at the "Shooting Station." The station, is located on the other side of a lagoon. I also updated information on the occupation of the village/archaeological site of Nuvuk. Anne Brygger (talk) 06:51, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
Panoramic Picture
[edit]The panoramic picture shown with mountains in the background is not from Point Barrow. There are no mountains around Point Barrow. The picture is likely from Barter Island.
You are correct that there are no mountains near Point Barrow. There are no mountains in the image either. That is sea ice shoved up on the beach. You can see a van used by a former tour company here in Utqiaġvik Anne Brygger (talk) 04:57, 18 July 2021 (UTC)
