Preceding and Proceeding
[edit]It says that the New England Dominion proceeded (1686) and preceded (1686). This does not make any sense! — Preceding unsigned comment added by HenryBuf (talk • contribs) 20:42, 4 February 2026 (UTC)
I am reviewing this article as part of WP:URFA/2020, an initiative to review Wikipedia's oldest featured articles. I have some concerns with the article, which I've listed below:
- There are lots of uncited statements, including entire paragraphs.
- The article was at about 10,500 words when it was promoted to FA status. Now, it is almost 12,000, which is larger than the recommended length stated in WP:SS and WP:AS. I think information in this article can be spun out or summarised more effectively. Some sections include the "Counties and towns" section, "Religion", and the "History" section.
I'm going to add this to WP:FARGIVEN, to see if an editor becomes interested in addressing concerns. Z1720 (talk) 20:01, 11 August 2026 (UTC)
Inaccuracy regarding the identity of all Plymouth founders
[edit]Near the beginning of the article, it is written that "Plymouth Colony was founded by a group of Protestant Separatists initially known as the Brownist Emigration, who came to be known as the Pilgrims."
According to the passenger manifest of the Mayflower, only about one-third (roughly 35–40 out of 102 passengers) belonged to the Leiden Separatist congregation. The remaining majority consisted of secular merchants, artisans, laborers, and servants, historically referred to as the "Strangers." In fact, the friction between these two distinct groups and the threat of a mutiny by the non-Separatist majority is the precise historical catalyst that forced the drafting and signing of the Mayflower Compact.
I suggest we revise the phrasing to reflect that the colony was founded by a joint venture of Separatists and secular emigrants, not separatist only. Carredo (talk) 20:44, 28 September 2026 (UTC)
