[edit]I think a note needs to be made about the term 'trackman' as it's very commonly on the railway in the UK for a platelayer/track worker to be called a trackman. Zozzie 9t9 (talk) 10:09, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
Rewrite?
[edit]The Gandy dancer article covers this subject matter in some depth, albeit from a US perspective. It mentions the official North American term of "section hand", which has also been the standard term in Canada since early times. In British Columbia for instance, the "section" was that 8 miles or so of track maintained by the "section gang", who lived in the "section house". Perhaps a rewrite could move the mechanics of track maintenance from the Gandy dancer article into this one, so that the Gandy dancer one purely deals with the uniqueness of that terminology.
