misleading

The coverage of general use in modern American and European contexts could use some cleanup on its own but, more importantly, the current treatment entirely omits placards in other contexts, particularly the insane amount of topographic and memorial signage (牌) that went up in imperial China and continues to the present across East Asia. One goes up at most gates and over every major hall in every important location. They gave paifangs their name and the Kangxi and Qianlong Emperors of the Qing absolutely littered the country with theirs. If more content went up at commemorative plaque, maybe that could just be linked, but there should still be more here. — LlywelynII 00:36, 27 July 2025 (UTC)
