What is actually ment by 'special items' in the article? - not Inca treasure, since that WAS in Pirates! Gold 86.137.185.171 (talk) 15:37, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

There were no special "upgrade" items that could be found in the game, like the Balanced Swords or One-Shot Pistol in Sid Meier's Pirates! (2004). These items had to be found or purchased and would remain in your possession throughout your career. I don't know what items were available in the earlier game, though. At any rate, and anyway, in the future this redirect might become an article on its own. I created a draft in one of my sandboxes, over there: User:Kintaro/Kintaro sandbox. Dear Wikipedians, feel free to edit my sandbox until it is accepted this draft becomes an article that simply replaces the redirect. Please note the colon immediately before the word "Category" in the categories source code. This prevents the draft from appearing in the categories.
