Software mis-named

[edit]

The name "Picture Motion Browser" is incomprehensible. I used to have this software and could not work out what it was for because of that meaningless name. One day it struck me: lots of foreigners struggle with stringing English nouns in the right order, but when you get the right order, suddenly meaning shines out like the sun breaking through fog. "Motion picture" makes excellent sense, and "picture motion" makes no glimmer of sense. So I am certain it is a mis-translation and that the software should have been called "Motion Picture Browser" - i.e. a browser for looking through one's motion pictures or films. Note to businesses: you can do it like Sony too! Spend weeks developing a product and then allow half a day to have the product name and a 2000-word instruction leaflet translated. Find a translation agency on the internet; they will find a freelance translator (who is not allowed to send in any queries to you, the customer, in case he tries to get work direct from you); make sure you pay the agency an extra $20 for the luxury service of having the translation checked in one hour by someone who claims to know one of the two languages and who has just enough time to check that all the paragraphs are there; and you can rest assured that you will receive the documentation you paid for next morning, complete with actual nonsense and an incomprehensible name.
