Closed, or BOTH open & closed, photobioreactors

There are no references in this article so I can, of course, find no source that the previous editors have used to assert that all photobioreactors must be closed systems (in those editors' understanding that a monoculture of microalgae must be maintained). This may be true, but no citations exist to support those assertions. Moreover, there seems to be no inherent reason that one could not grow phototrophic microalgae in open ponds also, and these ponds might then, and rather accurately, be termed the "photobioreactor" in one's process flow. In other words, photobioreactor -- the term -- could mean both open and closed systems and would not necessarily be restricted to closed systems. PBR is indeed a closed system although it would be probably difficult to find explicit definition that PBR is by definition closed. one may find implicit defs i thinks; such as they are often classified under closed as opposed to oped systems. --ArazZeynili (talk) 07:18, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
