Personal Character Information for the Anime Film

• Patema: A upside down girl living in the underground world and isolated from humanity in the surface world. She is one of the "Invert", a group of isolated people walking through the ceiling without falling into the "sky", due to a failed experiment. She determines to help the people of "Inverts" unite with the rest of normal people affiliated with Aiga, despite their warning. Patema accompanies Eiji by holding on to each other.

• Eiji/Age: A male student in the authoritarian society of Aiga, whose father was killed by Izamura. Eiji hides Patema in a small house where she stands on the ceiling.

• Porta: A friend of Patema and an "Invert".

• G (Elder): The leader of the "Inverted" people in the underground civilization. He learns that Patema is leaving for the surface world and making contact with normal people who are affiliated with Aiga.

• Lagos: An "Inverted" citizen of the underground world and a friend of Eiji's father whom Izamura captured and killed.

• Jaku: Izamura's lieutenant affiliated with Aiga. Jaku becomes aware that Izamura had killed Eiji's father and Lagos.

• Kaho: Eiji's female classmate affiliated with Aiga.

• Izamura: A corrupt leader who established Aiga, a totalitarian, surface-level nation characterized by rigid conformity, dystopian control, and a deep-seated fear of "inverts" (with reversed gravity). He is the one who killed Eiji's father and Lagos, in order to prevent them from boarding the flying craft invention and revealing the truth for everyone.
