Wiki-linking incorrect -- or at least incomplete and misleading

The "history" section of this article discusses "parathion" (which is parathion-ETHYL) and its various names, including E605, but does not make the logical continuation to parathion-methyl (ME605). Yet entering "parathion-methyl" as a search criterion (in the usual wiki way) will result in a user landing on this page (and only this page). There is no disambiguation or intermediate step, you just end up at "parathion". This is absolutely misleading.

This is a clear error and, with this weakness, wikipedia and this article look rather poor, indeed. It should be corrected! (but I don't know how to correct the link)

Removing parts of the body

In the section about "protection against poisoning", the sentence: "If an area of the body is contaminated with parathion, if possible, it should be removed immediately." Obsolete

I don't think there anywhere is anywhere still producing this (although ~methyl still occasionally available) - but could be mistaken. I have therefore edited as an Obsolete pesticide. Roy Bateman (talk) 07:54, 24 March 2018 (UTC)

E605 name

the German version of this article has another explanation of the name E605. So it was good to find the right explanation or add a citation, that proves the current one.

The "Chemist"

I went searching through the source. Rachel Carson's source was "Insect control by chemicals" by A.W.A. Brown, page 510. The source says as follows: "There is a case of mortality which indicates the lethal dose of parathion for humans to be no more than 2 mg/kg. It concerns Professor Velbinger, who ingested 120 mg of E-605 and was paralysed so quickly that he could not take any of the prepared antidotes at hand before he died."

Unfortunately, although it handled sources better than Carson had, "Insect control by chemicals" did not have a source for this directly, and I could not find the sources around it.

I believe that this Professor Velbinger is the same Helmut H. Velbinger as found in http://chemistryworld.com/opinion/a-cautionary-tale-/2500174.article

I also found some of his studies in https://stacks.cdc.gov/view/cdc/19422/cdc_19422_DS1.pdf? page 132.

I found a page https://www.deutsche-biographie.de/gnd125495765.html?language=en which linked to a page https://swb.bsz-bw.de/DB=2.114//CMD?ACT=SRCHA&TRM=gnd:125495765 that suggested that he was instead an entomologist. I believe that this is correct, as Rachel Carson's source did not mention that he was a chemist.

I want to find his obituary (that according to the chemistry world article is in Die Pharmazie year 1948, but I have yet to find it. AmeliaMagdovitz (talk) 00:05, 9 September 2025 (UTC)
