I find it very hard to understand the setup of the Indian Paramilitary forces. The Indian Coast Guard is officially a paramilitary-unit, though it is considered by many as a part of the Military of India. --Deepak|वार्ता 20:54, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

Coast Guard is paramilitary as in it is not military. The government does not make such distinctions and each service (CRPF, CISF, BSF, Assam Rifles etc.) is treated separately. There is no classification or general division as military and paramilitary. But in general those under MOD are military (IA, IN,IAF, ICG) and under MoHome as paramilitary. Though management of RR etc. is under home ministry.

Assam Rifles Image

I am removing the image as it is of Assam Regiment (Indian Army) soldier and not Assam Rifles. The differences in uniform are as follows 1) Assam Rifles use blue gray trousers & gray shirt with red-black lanyard, Indian army uses olive green half sleeves shirt over the year except in winter when the second khaki-green colour (don't know what it is called)full shirt is used. 2) In Assam Regiment the word ASSAM is written in silver metal and on left and write shoulder as you can see in both images, Assam Rifles use a curved ASSAM in yellow over red. 3)The headgear of Assam Regiment is khaki with light khaki band and the insignia is black on the left side. On Assam Rifles the hat is still khaki with light khaki band but has a red border and insignia is on red background and worn on right side. Border Security Force

Dear Readers,

We don't know why Central Govt. making partition to give Ex-service man grade to BSF and other Paramilitary force soldiers, what the problem, where the problem, why we are not considering as a Ex-service man, Why govt. is not showing interest in this mater, why our BSF Officers are not fighting for this, MHA is taking more duty than Army from BSF, but why we are not considering as a Ex service man, My urge is to we must and should consider as early as possible and it should be effect from year 2000, —Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.254.170.186 (talk) 17:56, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Assam Rifles in CAPF?

Hey Guys, I think the Indian Government now counts Assam Rifles as Central Armed Police Forces and not a paramilitary force. This can be seen in this reference() which is from the Indian Budget 2017-18 where the funds for it are allocated under CAPF. Maybe we should now move this there and leave SFF which is the only paramilitary force remaining. Any thoughts? Adamgerber80 (talk) 05:21, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

In india, officially there are no paramilitary forces. In official records they are known as armed forces of the Union, which means Armed Police Forces. These forces are functioning under leadership of Indian Police Service officers, not from the military. Asifalinair (talk) 02:09, 21 July 2026 (UTC)
