Former good article nomineePancake was a Agriculture, food and drink good articles nominee, but did not meet the good article criteria at the time. There may be suggestions below for improving the article. Once these issues have been addressed, the article can be renominated. Editors may also seek a reassessment of the decision if they believe there was a mistake.

edit request, bolding of alt-titles

[edit]

We have long-term semi-protection on our article about the hotly contested topic of... scones? That's hilarious. Anyhoo, in the UK section, please change drop scone and dropped scone from italics to the same text in bold, as they're clearly intended as term-defining alt-titles. (One already redirects here, the other clearly should.) 109.255.211.6 (talk) 14:40, 10 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. ⸺(Random)staplers 19:39, 10 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
... change ''drop scones'' to '''drop scones''' and ''dropped scones'' to '''dropped scones'''. This is a stylistic change per MOS:BOLDREDIRECT. 109.255.211.6 (talk) 20:30, 10 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Not done: I don't think this is the best choice. From elsewhere in the same MOS page: "This is not a requirement: for instance, it will not be desirable in a case where a large number of terms redirect to a single article, e.g. a plant species with dozens of vernacular names." This would seem to apply here. PianoDan (talk) 18:19, 13 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Alt-titles from redirects

[edit]

@PianoDan is correct to say above this is a wider topic than just 'dropped scone' case and there's a large number of other such redirects. I'd disagree this makes in undesirable to do so; the situation here seems to me to be more like a number of nanostubs that have been effectively merged. We'd not get the sort of 'SEAOFBOLD' we might in the case he mentions. But we should deal with each symmetrically -- or, not -- so evidently some discussion on that is required first. 109.255.211.6 (talk) 20:56, 13 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Factual changes regarding the UK entry. Scotch pancakes are mainly called that in parts of the UK outside Scotland! The term drop scone for a small pancake with raising agent is common throughout the UK and isn't Scotland specific 92.40.218.224 (talk) 14:22, 20 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Change pannekoek to pannekoek (with piping) in Regional varieties > Africa > South Africa. I changed the redirect of pannekoek from pannenkoek to Anton Pannekoek in accordance with WP:PRIMARYTOPIC (the spelling of "pannenkoek" has become fairly standard, Anton Pannekoek's article receives more traffic, and a considerable portion of the outflow from "pannenkoek" prior to disambiguation was to the disambiguation page.) The following paragraph contains misspelled terms among other things: In Okinawa Prefecture, pancakes include Hirajacii [should be: hirayachi] (Okinawan: ヒラヤチー [should be: ヒラヤーチー]). Hirajacii [should be: Hirayachi] is a thin, very simple Okinawan pancake-like dish similar to buchimgae. It is basically "a savory Okinawan crepe with leeks", [the quotation marks are not necessary here, and I would remove the word "basically"] and is sometimes called "Okinawan style okonomiyaki". The name means "fry flat" [should be reversed: "flat fry" (this is a compound noun where "hira" meaning flat modifies "yachi" meaning fry, cf. the Japanese equivalent 平焼き] in the Okinawan language. ~2026-16133-81 (talk)  Preceding undated comment added 09:15, 14 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

I propose changing the Short description from "Thin round cake made of eggs, milk, and flour" to "Thin round cake made of eggs, milk, and flour, cooked on a hot surface".

The current short description does not adequately describe the specific and unique properties of a pancake.

Thank you, Z Madmtnbkfan (talk) 05:42, 18 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Not done: Per WP:SDSHORT, short descriptions should strive to be short, preferably at 40 characters or less. The current SD is already 45 characters. jolielover♥talk 06:48, 18 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
