Association with Caillois game categories
[edit]The word paidia, spelt as shown, was used by Roger Caillois in his 1958 book "Man, Play and Games". He based the word on the ancient greek Paideia. His new meaning was to describe games played purely for entertainment in contrast to ludus games 'representing calculation, contrivence and subordination to rules'.
I suggest a new page, Paidia (game categories), with a link to and from Roger Caillois' page and this page. Links to other terms defined on Caillois' page also need fixing.
The situation is further complicated by the fact that James Newman in his 2013 book "videogames", reuses Caillois' concept but uses the spelling 'paidea'. From the text it seems that Newman made a spelling error, rather than introducing a new concept unique to video games. Paidea entry now redirects back to the entry for the original greek Paideia.
I suggest a new disambiguation page, Paidea, with appropriate links.
